Jade Short - Yard Manager

Some people bring organisation to a yard. Others bring something less tangible, but just as important. Jade was nominated for her incredible ability to spread positivity and warmth to both horses and people, something that seems to sit naturally in the way she moves through her work and the world around her. Working with horses has shaped her in ways that go far beyond the practical. They have taught her patience, resilience, empathy and responsibility, lessons that come not through instruction, but through experience. Through learning to stay calm, to communicate without words, and to understand that trust is something earned over time, never demanded. These are the lessons that have followed her far beyond the yard, influencing not just the way she works with horses, but the way she shows up as a mother, a friend and a person.

They have also given her a sense of purpose. Caring for them, advocating for their welfare and watching them grow and thrive has become something much deeper than a role. On the hardest days, they are the reason to keep going, not just something she works with, but something that holds her steady. In many ways, they have shaped not just what she does, but who she is. What stands out most to her is their individuality. No two horses are ever the same, each with their own personality, their own way of responding to the world. Some bold, some sensitive, some quietly observant. And because of that, there is always more to learn, always something new to understand.

And yet, despite those differences, there is something they all seem to offer. A quiet ability to shift a mood, to bring a sense of calm, to remind you to pause. Whether it is a small interaction, a moment in the field or simply standing alongside them, there is a presence that brings you back to something simpler. She speaks about patience not as a virtue, but as a necessity, because working with horses is not always easy. It asks for time, consistency and a willingness to keep learning. But in return, it offers something rare, a connection that cannot be rushed and once built becomes one of the most genuine and rewarding relationships there is.
