Jess Errington – Groom for Harry Meade

Jess Errington – Groom for Harry Meade

Some roles in the equestrian world sit quietly in the background, but are at the very heart of everything. Jess was nominated for her hard work and dedication as a world class groom, something that is felt not in big moments, but in the consistency of what she does every day. For Jess, horses have never been just a job. They are part of her life in a way that does not switch off at the end of the day. She speaks about waking up each morning to something she genuinely enjoys, never really seeing it as work. Over time, she has built relationships with the horses she looks after, not through riding them, but through the quieter, often unseen moments on the ground. Learning their personalities, understanding what makes each one tick, and finding a way to meet them where they are.

She is drawn to the sharper, more complex horses, the ones that can be quirky, sometimes difficult, but underneath it all are kind and honest. Because to reach the top of the sport, horses need something extra, something that sets them apart. And part of her role is not to change that, but to understand it, to accept who they are, and to help make things easier for them. To support them mentally as much as physically, so they have the best possible chance to perform.

There are, of course, challenges. The nature of working with horses means there are always highs and lows, often more so than in other sports. They are unpredictable, sensitive, and at the highest level more prone to injury. That uncertainty is one of the hardest parts of the job, and yet it is something she continues to show up for, day after day.

Spending time with Jess, what stands out is a quiet belief in the horses she works with, a sense that if you are on their side, they will be on yours. That partnership is not forced, but built through trust, consistency and care. She speaks simply about her advice, love what you do and work hard. Because for her, that has been enough. Starting with no experience, not believing she would ever reach this level, and yet finding herself exactly where she is today. A reflection of what can happen when you commit fully and keep going, even when you are not entirely sure where it might lead.
