She Could Have Run: A New Limited Edition Art Collection by Emily Hancock

She Could Have Run is a new limited edition collection of equine art that blends my signature style, light, movement, and emotion, with a deeply personal story about opportunity, motherhood, and the power of visibility.
This work feels different. The horses are still there. The textures and tones are still mine. But this time, something more is stitched into every piece.
A Personal Reflection That Sparked the Work
The idea began with a quiet memory from my childhood. I never felt like I missed out, but recently I’ve started to look back with new eyes.
Watching the England women’s football team win the UEFA Euros filled me with pride and something unexpected. Sadness. For them. For my daughter. For me.
Growing up, I never saw women play football on TV. I didn’t know it wasn’t offered to me. I didn’t even question it. But now, raising a daughter of my own, I see the gaps that existed. And I see how lucky she is to grow up with real role models, visible success, and the chance to dream differently.
This collection is my way of acknowledging those missing spaces. And celebrating how far we’ve come.
Behind the Art: Photography, Paper, and Stitch
Each piece in the collection begins as one of my original equine photographs. I’ve printed, cut, rearranged, and rebuilt the images by hand. The final layers include delicate stitch marks each one placed with intention.
The act of cutting up my photographs felt bold. The reassembly felt honest. And the stitches became symbols.
They are not there to hide the breaks. They are there to show them. To honour the disruption, the healing, and the potential that remains.
The horses in these artworks carry emotion. They are strong, capable, and moving forward even when held back. They are wild. They are powerful. They are defiant.
About the Collection
She Could Have Run includes six original artworks, available in two unframed sizes:
20 x 20 inches
14 x 14 inches
Each size is strictly limited to just three prints per piece.
A portion of profits will be donated to Her Game Too, a UK-based charity supporting girls and women in football.
Why This Matters
Since becoming a mother, especially to a daughter, I’ve found myself more aware of what wasn’t there before. The silence around certain opportunities. The lack of representation. The fact that women’s football in England was banned for 50 years.
This work is about reclaiming space. Using art to reflect. Using art to speak.

Final Thoughts
This collection is a little more personal. A little more honest. It feels like a risk to share it. But it also feels important.
If any part of this story resonates with you — I would love to hear it. Whether you’re a mother, a daughter, a sports fan, an art lover, or someone who also sees how far we’ve come and how far we still need to go.
Thank you for being here.
